Our Parish Health Ministry has noted that it can be nearly impossible to find hand sanitizer in stores, unless you are one of the lucky people who arrive at the store exactly when a new shipment is made available for sale. They have found a "recipe" for a homemade version that is roughly equivalent to the commercial sanitizers you can buy in stores. To make it, follow the instructions below but be advised that Aloe Vera Gel is about as hard to find as hand sanitizer:

DIY HAND SANITIZER

2/3 cup 91% or 99% Isopropyl Alcohol
1/3 cup pure Aloe Vera Gel (usually available at nutrition stores and not the product with additives used for sunburns)
Up to 10 drops of essential oil for scent, if desired

Put ingredients into a large bowl and stir briskly or whisk together. Using a funnel, transfer to a bottle or other container for use.
